What I am about to explain to you is a simple and effective method that will allow you to improve your memory and your ability to visualise It will also improve your ability to access various parts of your brain thereby increasing intelligence. The creators of Neuro linguistic progarmming (NLP) Richard Bandler and John Grinder discovered that people position their eyes in certain ways when accessing and representing information to themslves. These are called representational systems.
For example if I were to ask you what would you look like with a red beard. If you were a right handed person you would look up and to the right. If you were a left handed person you would most likely look up and to the left. What Bandler and Grinder discovered was that when people move their eyes in certain ways they are accessing different modalities eg sounds pictures feelings and self talk. This has proven to be useful in communication and changing people’s mental states. A full explanation of representaional systems is beyond the scope of this article however by applying this series of eye movements it is possible for you to:
- Develop extraordinary eyesight and sensory perception
- Increase your memory and learning ability
- Improve your ability to visualise
- Improve visual recall
- Strengthen attention span
- Improve auditory recall
- Increased brainpower
- Improve your intuition
First you will need some sunlight! If you don’t have the real thing use a full spectrum light bulb.
1. Look into the sun for 16 seconds with eyelids gently closed leaving a small gap. Look away and back to the sun three times.
2. Gently massage eyes with fore fingers and keeping eyes closed notice the colours that are present.
3. Keep colours in your visual field for as long as is possible and notice if the colours change. Two minutes is about as long as I have managed! If there are no colours at first don’t worry.
4. Move your eyes up and to the left and hold for 16-20 seconds and then up and to the right for 16- 20 seconds.
5. Do the same for down and to left and down and to theright.
6. Now move your eyes to the left and then to the right. Hold both postions for 16-20 seconds
7. Now focus your eyes on your nose and hold for 16-20 seconds.
8. Now focus your eyes upwards towards your brow. This will instantly slow your brainwaves inducing an alpha state.
9. Now focus your attention inwards to the tip of your tongue and hold for 16-20 seconds. This will improve your sense of taste!
10. Now take a piece of written material and place it a comfortable distance for reading. Each day as you practice these eye movents step a little further back and begin to read whatever delightful material you have in front of you. You can also reverse this process by bringing it closer to you unill it is nearly touching your nose.
By practicing these simple eye movments each day you will improve your sensory perception.

Dance is inherent in every living thing from the swirl of atoms and molecules to the movement of galaxies. If thought about, all things dance. The simplest definition one could give of dance would simply be movement. For anything to exist it has to have motion or as the great philosopher Alan Watts said; resonance. Resonance is an echo and requires motion. Even what we would ordinarily consider to be static stationary objects, at a deeper level have movement. This simple movement could be considered a dance; in this context dance being the interplay of subatomic particles, atoms, molecules and so on. All dance requires space – that is for anything to move it requires somewhere to move. As a corollary this movement produces sound or resonance. This is well documented in Vedic literature where the entire universe is perceived as a symphony of sounds produced by vibrations of energy. This energy being pervasive animates all things, indeed BEING all things; it gives rise to all that we see feel and experience.Dance as one would more commonly think is expressive movement – and it is interesting to observe the similarity of the words motion and emotion – or one could say; Motion = emotion! Perhaps this is why dance is creative in nature and can have such a powerful impact on how one feels and expresses themselves. It would also explain why dance is useful in therapy and can be used to convey story as seen in theatrical performances. Interestingly enough our body language says far more than our words – according to Ray L Birdwhistell who carried out research in the 1970’s named kinesis and context. In short he discovered that more than half of our communication is expressed through our physiology; the rest through our tonality and words. This makes me think of the proverb:- Actions speak louder than words!
Perhaps this is why dance is able to convey such strong emotion and can tell a story. Dance is also synonymous with music so much so they are almost dualistic in nature. Music is also what makes dance fun exciting and invigorating or slow relaxed and introspective. Music and dance have so much in common that to separate them would be an arbitrary task. As with music, dance can also involve solo to group performances with some styles of dance only being suitable for you and your partner, such as swing or ballroom! Dance is a wonderful form of expression and can be fluid, rhythmic or gesticulatory. Involving the movement of legs hands fingers and toes; each of our extremities all exquisitely designed to allow for a myriad styles of movement. With our bodies so perfectly created to express such movement we can release powerful emotions and in turn heal our bodies of stress, psychological burden and repressed memories.
How does this work? What is the process that makes this healing possible?
In my opinion in comes back to the two words motion/emotion. Motion or dance allows us to explore emotion because when we move in specific ways we invariably experience specific states. Altered states and increased awareness through directed intentional movement can free us from limiting patterns of behaviour and if practiced regularly can create new physical connections in our neurology thus altering our perception of the world who we are and how we fit in.
With an art form such as dance using words to describe it is like a student of Zen trying to explain Zen. Basically it can’t be done; it has to be experienced. Dance could very well be a Zen experience. A direct experience of self and reality where the dancer is lost and only the dance remains. So whenever you’re feeling low or stuck in negativity get into the rhythm and swing it!

One thing that I’ve gotten into in the past several months is raw chocolate or cacao pronounced Ka(cow)- yes, identical to our dearly beloved friends who produce for us in plentiful supply our daily servings of milk! Cacao is the nut from which all chocolate is made; so howeveryou eat your chocolate in whatever form from whatever sourcewhether it be a mars
bar a snickers or something of higher quality like sacred heart or green&blacks it all comes from the cacao bean.
This bean which is botanically classified as a nut comes from the fruit of the cacao tree and is known as theobroma cacao;the literal translation of which being: food of the gods! Unfortunately by the time you get your tasty bar of chocolate it has been processed so much that it barely resembles the quality or taste of the original food. Chocolate in it’s original state is an
excellent source of magnesium and chromium which according to Nutrition Expert
David Wolfe are the two main major mineral deficiencies right now in America…
And interestingly enough with the high rate of heart related deaths throughout the world and with so many people eating chocoalte bars it kind of makes one wonder what happened to the goodies inherent in the original food. Our heart and brain thrive on magensium which make chocolate great food for the soul. It is the most chemically complex food known with over 300 chemicals and contains significant sources of PEA (Phenylethylamine) and anandamide. The former also known as the love chemical and the latter taken from the sanskrit ananda, meaning bliss, and therefore known as the bliss chemical!
The cacoa fruit can yield anything from twenty to fifty beans and is the highest source of antioxidants known to man according to ORAC (Oxygen Radical Advanced Capacity) ratings in the US. (If interested please refer to wikipedia for a definitions of ORAC and antioxidants)
My own experiences of eating chocolate tell me that it’s a great feel good food which is very stimulating and produces a mild euphoria. It lifts ones spirits and is also one of the best tasting foods. It’s also a natural appetite suppressant and laxative. By introducing raw cacao into your diet each day either in the form of a smoothie or as a snack you will be on your way to having the best day ever. Here are a few ideas for eating your chocolate raw:
Small Handful of the raw nibs and goji berries with some
raw honey or agave syrup.
Cacao Smoothie:-
- Approx 300-400 ml of water
- 24 Almonds
- 3 Dates
- 2-4 tbsp of cacao nibs/powder
- 1-2 tbsp of coconut butter
- Honey or Agave to sweeten
- 1 tsp of cinammon
- 1/2 tsp of nutmeg
The cacoa smoothie can become an exciting way of getting all your daily nutrients. Ingredients like Cashews, Cayenne, Berries, Cherries Bee pollen, Aloe Vera, Camu Camu, Goji, Maca and Lucuma can all be added to create wonderfully nutritious and stimulating drinks that will have you thinking
“I never knew eating healthy could taste so good”
You can even make shockingly good mochas. You can use herbal teas as a base for that extra nutrional component and play around with it to see what works for you. Best to keep it simple to begin with and then progress from there! If you have any comments please do share
